Dealing with Infidelity

Learning that your soldier has cheated on you is enough to send you on the emotional roller coaster ride of a lifetime. Do you leave or stay in the marriage? Your friends and family encourage you to leave but the bottom line is that you must deal with your spouse's infidelity. You must deal with your own hurt and betrayal, and the final decision about what to do must be yours and should be well thought-out.

Home Alone for the Holiday's

For a military spouse being home alone for the holiday's is not a joyous occasion and can be quite difficult without proper support channels in place. I can remember so vividly my daughter and I spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years without my husband and I can tell you from experience, though difficult, you can still have a joyous holiday season, all it takes is some creativity. The Internet with email capability was not an option when my husband was away which speaks to how far the military has come in terms of keeping families connected during deployments.

I've been married to my now retired Army soldier 18 years going on 19 and I'm more in love with him today than when we first got married. Sounds gusshy doesn't it? But it's the truth and I can't deny it.

Mission First!

I'm always amazed by the emails I receive and the posts that I read on various message board forums from new military spouses who are trying to grasp this whole military spouse lifestyle. Like the other day, I'm reading a message from a new spouse who asks, why her soldier is always headed off to participate in training exercises and leaving her and the children behind. Understanding the new spouses frustration, I quickly composed an email expressing my concern and understanding of her situation. I shared with her a list of support networks and available resources and closed my message letting her know that she was not alone and that a team of dedicated spouses and civilians stand ready to provide her with emotional support and empowerment.

During my husband's retirement ceremony back in 2004, I was surprised to hear so many soldiers saying they weren't ready personally or financially for retirement. I even heard one soldier say, "retirement meant that his life was over", his negative comments had an immediate effect on both his wife and children who went from smiles and laughter to fear and tears.
