2006 Military Spouse Expo is
Successful
by Yonna Diggs
T.A.P. Manager
June 30, 2006
The Joint Employment Transition Services (JETS) hosted their First
Annual Military Spouse Career Expo June 17 at the Sosa Recreation
Center in Ft. Belvoir, Va.
The mission of the expo was to "empower military spouses through
information, motivation and skill development, leading to sound
career choices." This effort was a spin-off from the First Annual
Military Spouse Career Expo hosted at Henderson Hall last July. Many
military spouses that attended the conference at Henderson Hall
requested that another symposium be held. The concept was to
incorporate it into a joint effort, which was a monumental and
groundbreaking success.
The day was filled with various activities. Mrs. Anne Lauritzen,
spouse of the Ft. Belvoir Garrison Commander, welcomed everyone to
the event. Keynote speakers were Mrs. Debbie Kloeppel, founder of
the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network, Kathyrn Troutman from
"The Resume Place" and Victoria Parham, CEO of the Virtual Business
Owners Network.

New program trains military spouses to work from home
By Callean Holly
Army Community Service
Aug 24, 2006, 12:00 pm
The Virtual Business Owners Training Program recognizes self
employment as a professional career option for military spouses and
is designed to educate participants on how to become self-employed
virtual business owners and/or virtual assistants.
VBO was developed by Victoria Parham, a retired military spouse.
When she started her business, her husband was in the military and
like most military spouses, she was mobile. She developed this
program to help herself and others to establish an alternative to
employment.
An online streaming video called “Introduction to the Virtual
Business Owners Training Program” is just over five minutes in
duration and it can be viewed at:
http://www.vsscyberoffice.com/vbo/mlibary.htm.
VBO is currently funded by the Department of Navy making it possible
for all military spouses (regardless of branch) to participate at no
cost to them. VBO is open to all Department of Defense employees
(military Active Duty, Reservists, National Guard, Coast Guard,
retirees, civil service, and DEERS-enrolled family members of these
groups).
